CURE Interns 2022

After a two-year hiatus, the CURE internship has returned to OMC-Jefferson Highway.

This year, CURE welcomes its fourth class, who will be on campus May 23 through July 1, 2022.

Five undergraduate College of Sciences University of New Orleans (UNO) students will engage in laboratory-based research in our cancer, infectious disease, kidney, neuroscience, and rheumatology translational labs.

In addition to working on a specific research project, interns will be paired with a physician or PhD for one-on-one mentoring and participate in other professional development activities.

CURE was launched in 2017 by Kevin Conrad, MD, Senior Physician in Hospital Medicine and UNO alumni, following a meeting with university and Ochsner administrations. It was decided that UNO, the university that educates the most college students in the area, and Ochsner, who employs the most, should explore opportunities to collaborate that would help expose science students to a variety of career paths.

Dr. Conrad offers, “CURE interns are academically some the best students, not only at UNO, but in our region. We would hope that someday CURE participants would consider a career at Ochsner, either as a physician, a provider or a lab scientist. I am proud to confirm that CURE alumni have gone on to pursue medical school and dental school degrees, other biological science graduate degree programs or have immediately pursued careers in laboratories.”
