Release Date: September 13, 2024

The fall issue of Ochsner Journal features articles in almost every category: original research, literature review, case report, editorial, quarterly column, and letters. In addition, the issue features a tribute to former Ochsner research scientist Julia Cook, PhD written by her long-time colleague Dr. Richard Re.

The research article topics are diverse: a study of HPV genotypes from Louisiana pathology samples, outcomes of orchiectomy in patients with stage IV prostate cancer, the use of ERCP for managing pancreaticobiliary injuries in a trauma center, and the risks of instrumental delivery for obese parturients.

The issue editorial, an adjunct to the maternal obesity study, questions the clinical conclusions derived from the statistical tests most commonly used in research studies and provides two analyses of the same data using different statistical techniques to illustrate the point.

The subjects of the case reports are as wide-ranging as the research topics, encompassing Ewing sarcoma, shoulder arthroscopy, pheochromocytoma, pneumonia caused by a fungal pathogen, leiomyoma of the pancreas, Sheehan syndrome, and ectopic pancreatic tissue in the gallbladder.

The fall issue Health, Medicine, and Society column examines the history and current state of GLP-1 receptor agonists—Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound.
