In partnership with Xavier University of Louisiana, Ochsner Health is working hard to close health gaps and come up with new ways to deliver healthcare through the Ochsner-Xavier Institute for Health Equity and Research (OXIHER). By sharing resources with the local government, health providers, insurers, employers, schools, and other community groups, OXIHER is paving the way to improve Louisiana's health rankings.
OXIHER’s mission is to inform strategies to improve Louisiana’s overall health ranking, reduce health disparities, develop innovative healthcare delivery models, and model respectful, high quality care.

What is Health Equity?
Health equity means giving everyone the same chance to be as healthy as they can be. This means we need to tackle and remove barriers like poverty, unfair treatment, lack of good jobs, poor education, and unsafe places to live that can stop people from being healthy.

What are Health Disparities?
Health disparities are preventable differences in health outcomes that exist between different groups of people. These differences are often linked to social, economic, and environmental factors, such as good jobs, quality education, access to healthy foods, safe housing, and healthcare. Addressing these disparities is essential for promoting equal health opportunities for all people and ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to achieve their best possible health. This creates stronger, more resilient communities where everyone can thrive, and fewer people suffer from preventable health problems.
